When I first saw it from afar in a local supermarket, I thought it was a green apple. Then my mother told me that it is a fresh date (jujube /
Ziziphus zizyphus / 蜜枣) and that she used to eat them during her growing up years in Taiwan. So I bought a pack of about 6 (500g) at about RM15 to try as I have never tasted a fresh date before. It is crunchy and tastes slightly sweet. Will definitely buy them again.
oh really? it look like green apple to me too. Will be on the look out for this one :)
ReplyDeleteI got mine at Jusco supermarket. You'll like them if you like eating raw vegetables and fruits. :)
ReplyDeleteIt does look 100% like green apple leh. Hehe
ReplyDeleteYour mom grew up in Taiwan? Er... Half Taiwanese?
My mom's family moved to Taiwan from China when she was very young and she only came to Malaysia after marrying my father.
ReplyDeleteFresh dates? Who would have thought?
ReplyDeleteI really had NO idea!
My dad planted this tree behind our house many years back, we thought it was a smaller variety of apple too!
ReplyDeleteNomadicMom, now you do!
ReplyDeletemiracle8, so do you like the taste of it?
I seriously thought they are green apples (my favorite). Will look out for this green fresh date...
ReplyDeleteHi Jenn, Do try it and let me know how you like its taste! :)

ReplyDeleteRYC: after some thoughts,i blocked and deleted that jerk from facebook. though he has my handphone number ... i will see how it goes. i talked to a few professional friends about the jerk and they also say that's not the way to be a professional in his field no matter what. and i cannot risk my reputation if i were to introduce him to my other friends as future business partners. what i'm going to do now is to check him out with a mutual friend whom he said he knew. well for what? just to gossip. =)
Wow! Really? I always thought dates were always brown and yucky.
ReplyDeleteRenaye, it is a fresh date. It has a "stone" seed in it like an apricot. You can pictures of it when halved at: http://www.frangipani.com/huahin/jujube.jpg or
