New Lane

Thank you to everyone who left CNY wishes as comments for my previous post. Still 5 days to go before CNY celebration officially ends so here's wishing everyone again a very happy Chinese New Year, may all of you gallop into the year of the horse with renewed vigour, good health, happiness and prosperity.

I did not go anywhere during CNY day 1 but on the day 4, I hitched a ride to Penang with my youngest brother who was returning to his home. The plan was to stay with him for one day, meet up with my friend, and return to KL on day 6 but the buses to KL were all full on day 6 so I had to stay for another day.

Just went to New Lane, Penang for hawker food one night for dinner, Queensbay mall for lunch on day 5 and KK Dry Bak Kut Teh restaurant for lunch on day 6. On Day 7 it was back to KL on Aeroline (RM60).
So do enjoy the next 5 days of CNY celebration before it ends!

Lion dance

Six more days to go before we conclude the 15 days of CNY celebration. As both my spouse's and my hometown is KL and both of us live 10 mins away from my in-laws and my mother, we did not have to travel far during CNY.

Our normal CNY routine is we eat reunion lunch with my mother and reunion dinner with my in-laws during CNY eve. Then on the 1st day of CNY, we will go to visit my in-laws with CNY greetings (pai nian ๆ‹œๅนด) in the morning and then visit my mother in the afternoon.

This year my brother bought us dinner on CNY day 3. One of the dishes was salmon yee sang. This year I find the price to be pretty steep - RM48 for half a portion. An added bonus: there was a lion dance in the restaurant when we were halfway through our dinner and we have a good view of the "stage" from our table.

After performing the traditional lion dance, the two lions and the joker then proceed to perform O.G. Style dance - the currently very popular (O) ppa (G) angnam Style dance. It was very entertaining. Too bad I did not capture a video of the dance. I just took some blurry photos. It was a fun dinner, all thanks to my brother!

Another one day to go and it will be Chinese New Year! Here's wishing everyone who celebrates Chinese New Year, Gong Xi Fa Cai (Mandarin). May all of you have a prosperous year!

Here are the (foc) ang pow packets that were given to me. I have yet to fill them with money to be given out during CNY. This new year is the year of the snake but only two packets have snake-related design - one with cute snakes and one with a scary looking snake. I like the pink one best.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Another long weekend

What a surprise to see the flowers
Another long weekend gone as last Friday was a public holiday. We went for a gathering with old friends from secondary (high) school. Most of them are married with children ranging from 4 years old to 12 years old. That reminded me that I am getting old and I should treasure life more.

Then as usual with holidays, we took the parents out for a meal. My spouse also helped them to repaint their door and listened to their grouses about the various things that needed repair around the house. I guess when we grow old, it is harder for us to perform house maintenance tasks.

To wrap up the holidays, we watched a TV movie with the title "Temple Grandin". It is a biographical film of Dr. Grandin who was diagnosed with autism when she was a child but then went on to overcome many obstacles to earn a doctoral degree. A truly inspiring movie.

Long weekend

Hari Raya this year was on Sunday (19 Aug) and Monday (20 Aug) so we had public holidays on Monday and Tuesday (20 and 21 Aug). I gave my netbook a holiday too and did not switch it on for all four days but I did go online via other devices.

Relatives living in other states took this opportunity to come back to visit their elders and we had a grand time catching up with them. It was a breeze to drive in KL on Sat and Sun because there was no traffic congestion as everyone was either away on vacation or out of town visiting their parents. Those who stayed back in KL thronged the shopping malls with babies and grandparents in tow and that included us. :D

To everyone on the road, please drive safely. Hope all of you enjoyed your weekend.

1st day CNY

I just came back from visiting my in-laws on the 1st day of Chinese New Year. It is drizzling now and I am supposed to be taking a nap but I find myself blogging instead. This year, CNY is slightly different as my spouse cooked the vegetarian meal for his whole family this time and it was a success!

Here's wishing all my blogger friends who are celebrating Chinese New Year: happiness, good health, wisdom, courage, prosperity and peace in this year of the dragon!
