23 years and counting

I nearly forgot this day. Successfully completed one month and here's to many more.
When we were young.

谢谢小影

The 2nd half of the year has started. Another 6 months to go before a new year starts.

Last month (June), I received two registered parcels (poslaju) from two very nice ladies (one each) - Hayley and 小影 (Sheta). I have written about Hayley's parcel here so now I will write about Sheta's parcel.

Thank you Sheta for the souvenirs from Korea. As my neighbour was not available to house sit for me to receive this parcel and I have no transport to go to the post office to pick it up, I called the post office and told them about my predicament. They told me that I could request for it to be delivered to another address with someone there to receive it and so I did. My mother-in-law is kind enough to receive the parcel on my behalf.

The parcel with "Ubah Hala (change direction in the Malay Language)" written on it and the date to deliver it (27/6).

I unwrapped the parcel to reveal a very pretty box.

I opened the box to discover a sweet note from 小影, thank you Sheta. How did you manage to put the chopsticks into the box? I couldn't do it.

I like this very much - cute and useful - a nail clipper from Korea!

A whole box of goodies for me to share with my family. Thank you again 小影 but no more "poslaju" or courier parcels, ok? It is better for us to meet up for a meal since both of us are in the Klang valley. It would be great to meet up with you.

P/S I have also requested Wenn and other online friends not to send me any more registered mail (poslaju or courier) due to my inability to receive them. So sorry but no more parcels, ya? Thank you! :)

Thoughtful

Through this blog I have got to know some very nice and thoughtful ladies and one dedicated teacher who surprised me with gifts and postcards now and then. This post is dedicated to them: Aileen, Claire, JenniferRose, Reptoz, Sharon, Hayley, Sheta and Wenn.

Sometimes the mail goes missing and unfortunately that happened to Rose's gift. Sorry Rose. And as I can't accept registered mail due to timing issues, I would like to thank everyone for their kind gestures and thoughts and would like to say it is the thoughts that count and I really treasure each and every comment made on both my blogs but please do not take the trouble to send me any gifts. It pains me each time when the mail goes missing.

I would also like to say sorry to the mysterious person whose registered mail to me got returned to the sender. I hope your gift got back to you safe and sound. Will the mysterious person please raise your hand? :)

Last but not least, I would like to thank Wenn for the big surprise below. It is a magnetic bookmark. It is a big surprise because I almost miss it as the envelope looked empty.

So a big thank you to everyone who is reading this.

Today is a special day for me not because it is a day where "Chap Goh Mei" (Hokkein word for the 15th day of Chinese New Year which is the end of the Chinese New Year celebration) also known as Chinese Valentine Day coincides with Valentine's Day and I read that it only happens once every 19 years but because I was packing my personal things and found the following valentine day's card which I made for my boyfriend (now spouse) back in 1997. It really brought back fond memories.

My spouse gave me a figurine of two piggies dancing together because both of us are born in the year of the boar and based on that one figurine, I drew the above valentine card.

And this is the message inside. I especially like the last sentence: Let's waltz through life together, up the mountains, down deep valleys, through rain and shine. Now, I don't make cards for him anymore, we just create memories together and store them in our brain (or I write about them online).

Here's wishing everyone a Happy Valentine's Day. May you spend this day with your loved ones!

Special day

Yesterday I met up with Jennifer and her husband. I have been reading her blog since 2009 and vice versa. They are a lovely couple and I had a great time talking with them.

Jennifer gave me a nice gift.

A gift from Jennifer

Tea from Hanoi, just nice to drink after a heavy meal.

Jennifer treated me to a very delicious meal too - Taiwanese beef glass noodle with lots of vegetables in it, pancake and tea.

Delicious beef glass noodles

Pancake with butter and honey

Last but not least, of course I had a wonderful time on this special day. Thank you both very much and I am looking forward to our next meeting to treat you both to a yummy meal in return.

Nice message

Teamwork

I often buy items that need assembling and will assemble them myself. For bigger items, I seek the help of my spouse. This is one activity that both of us enjoy doing together. As it requires us to work as a team, it brings us closer to each other. So far, we have assembled many items such as cupboards, tables, sofa beds, chairs, kitchen cabinets and trolleys.

Once we had a very difficult time trying to fix two cabinets with doors to a free-standing kitchen console according to the step-by-step instructions given in the guide but we did not give up. In the end, we had to rearrange the steps to get the job done.

So if you have run out of things to do with your spouse, why not try assembling some items together?

Twelve years

It has been 12 years since we said our marriage vows in Cantonese in front of the Registrar of Marriage at the National Registration Department of Kuala Lumpur.

Here's wishing us a very Happy 12th Anniversary! May we be together for many more years to come and get to wish each other many, many more happy anniversaries.

A delightful find

While cleaning the house recently, I came across a long-forgotten item. I couldn't even remember its existence so it was a surprise when I found it. It was a handmade Valentine's Day card given to me 18 years ago by my then one-and-only boyfriend (now my spouse).

Looking at it, I wonder what would it take for him to hand make a card for me this coming Valentine's Day. Showing him the card, I asked him this question and he told me jokingly that he hired someone to make the card for him then. I know it is not true because I can recognise his handwriting. He even painstakingly wrote
all along the edges of the card. Like me, he also does not remember anything about this card at all.

After being together for 19 years 3 months 1 week and 5 days, I honestly do not expect nor want a meticulously handmade card from him anymore because our love for each other has grown and moved past this stage. Now, we focus more on mutual respect, open communication and acceptance of each others' shortcomings without wanting to change each other.

So for this coming Valentine's Day, we won't be going out for any meals. We will just eat a simple dinner at home, enjoy watching a movie together in the comfort of our sofa-bed and share a heart-to-heart talk before calling it a day.

To those who love and those who are loved, may all of you enjoy a Happy Valentine's Day on 14 Feb 2011!

P/S Although I aim to keep my belongings to a minimal because I do not want to become a hoarder, I'm glad that I kept the card because it does bring back such fond memories of the time when we were young and love struck. So I am putting the card back into my "sentimental treasure box" so that I can look at it again when I am old and grey.

So are you a keeper or a thrower when it comes to things like cards and sentimental gifts?
